The Alhambra Palace, Granada
In its historic centre, which dates back to 1487, we find the famous 'Balcón de Europa' , a viewpoint overlooking the sea, build from the ruins of an old medieval castle. The old city maintains all the flavour of Andalucia, with its whitewhashed houses and balconies with geraniums, while at the same time it offers you a wide selection of restaurants and bars, where you can enjoy the quality and variety of the local gastronomy.
The beaches, among them the famous 'Burriana' (awarded every year with the Blue Flag of the EU), are perfect to enjoy the Mediterranean sun and practice different water sports, that offer fun for all the family members.
Nerja offers a wide range of cultural activities, among which the 'Festival de las Cuevas de Nerja' stand out on its own. The mentioned "Cuevas" (caves) which can be visited all year round, are a real natural wonder and are the third most visited monument in Spain.
FRIGILIANA
Situated next to Nerja, this small village in the interior, surrounded by
immense mountains and shaped by its beautiful little streets of the purest
andalusian style, is famous for its sweet vine and its oil.
It was a Moorish redoubt after the "Reconquista" of Granada by the Catholic
Monarchs in 1492. The artistic tiles in many corners of its street convey us
to the passionate and turbulent history of this unique location, and are
well worth a visit.
MARO
Between Nerja and Almuñecar we find Maro, a little village of approx. 700
inhabitants, whose virgin beaches are the envy of the whole Costa del Sol.
Nature lovers can visit its famous cliffs and a charming water spring known
as the "Nacimiento de Maro", a fantastic spring of crystalline waters from
Sierra Nevada.
MÁLAGA
Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol, is approximately 55km. from Nerja .
The poet Vicente Alexander called it "City of Paradise", and you will truly
feel like you are in paradise when you walk its sunny streets and visit the
best known monuments of the city: the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba and the
Gibralfaro Castle, and let's not forget the house where Pablo Picasso was
born, the international renowned artist.
GRANADA
At approximately 95 km. from Nerja, the city of Granada is a must for the
tourist that come to these coasts. Its astonishing Moslem tradition, ever
present in its streets and squares, reaches its peak in the Alhambra, an
Arab palace of world-wide renown and whose beauty has conquered artists from
all over the world
CUEVAS DE NERJA
The Caves of Nerja are truly a prodigy of Nature, discovered on the
outskirts of the town on 1959. The impressive stalactites and stalagmites
that form the caves have so far attracted thousands of visitors and have
made of this emblematic place the third most visited monuments of Spain.
